Your role

  • The Project Lead RAMS Engineer will carry out Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) Engineering responsibilities that solve complex system requirements. Provide schedule estimates on RAMS tasks to the project team. Lead and manage RAMS tasks on the project with respect to the cost, schedule and project milestones. Ensure that the Reliability and Product Safety objectives are reached in integrating all sub-system to the System requirements. Provide technical expertise in support of other departments and less experienced personnel.
  • The position has a prime focus on Product Safety. In the frame work of one of Bombardier’s project in the EMEA region, the candidate will be responsible for developing the complete safety assurance process based on EN50126 standard (but also other contractual standard), prepare the Safety Case, interface with the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) and ensure the system acceptance by the local safety authority.
  • The candidate will be the main contact within the Project Core Team and the client for all RAMS aspects. He or she will report to the System Assurance Manager in the EMEA region of the System division.

Your Key Accountabilities

  • Manage System Safety and RAM programs for Systems Division projects in EMEA in the following functional areas:
  1. Reliability: Calculate equipment failure rates using data from various sources and develop Reliability Block Diagrams with this information. Work with Engineering to agree upon failure rate targets for sub-systems.
  2. Availability: Develop availability models to support projects and proposed designs based on the Reliability Block Diagrams. Provide targets for vendor supplied equipment to Engineering, and incorporate into RAMS requirements for vendors.
  3. Maintainability: Develop Maintainability Analyses and perform other required maintainability tasks.
  4. Safety: Act as lead of the System Safety Program for Systems Projects through being the primary point of contact for safety activities and issues, and leading the discussion of system safety activities with the project team, Engineering, and with the customer. Responsible for all aspects of System Safety including:
  1.  Lead hazard identification and safety requirements process, Interpret safety requirements of customer contract and notify affected areas of any changes;
  2. Ensure that all of the necessary safety analyses are conducted according to requirements and schedules; and perform or review detailed safety analyses and hazard analyses using techniques such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analyses) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis).
  3. Manage and track all hazards and safety requirements in a Database (MS-Access or similar).
  4. Support the safety efforts of the project by coordinating efforts among the various engineering disciplines and contractors for System safety.
  • Demonstrates creative ability through the medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, reports and procedures, technical papers, and published articles.
    Maintains awareness of modern technology in engineering disciplines by membership in technical
  •  societies, participation in RAM and Safety related courses and seminars, and outside study.
  • Provides technical expertise in support of Marketing, Program Management, Manufacturing, Field Start-up, Operations and Maintenance Manual production, and Design Engineering
  •  Mentors less experienced engineers while requiring little personal supervision, imparts technical expertise and experience to others, demonstrates a consistently high level of quality and personal integrity.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in electrical or mechanical.
  • 5 to 10 years of RAMS experience in rail industry, preferably on Automatic Transit System.
  • Thorough knowledge of the EN50126 / EN50128 / EN50129 series and their application.
  • Strong background in systems safety programs and Site Safety issues and methods.
  •  Strong organizational skills and the ability to objectively assess staff performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills for liaising with all levels of BT SYS management.
  • Ability to manage / direct a team of skilled professionals, technical staff and project safety managers.
  • Must be capable of interpreting contracts/specifications to support final closure of issues.
  • Candidates must be fluent in English. Additional knowledge of French, German or Arabic would be an asset.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel frequently to project sites in Saudi Arabia or UAE and Product Centre of Competence in Kingston and Pittsburgh including potential for short term assignments.
