Description
  • The Navigation Senior Officer shall be responsible for assisting the Manager Aeronautical Services with the safe, timely and accurate production of navigation data for use onboard flydubai aircraft, flight planning data, airport analysis and other navigation data for use onboard flydubai aircraft.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • All airline navigational related functions.
  • Major areas of responsibility include:
  • FMC navigation maintenance.
  • Charted navigation data.
  • ARINC 424 (PANS Ops) Procedure design development and validation.
  • Technical airfield and route assessments.
  • Over-flight application, monitoring and updating including invoice reconciliation.
  • Local flight regulation compliance.
  • Flight Planning system administration, and revision control.
  • Supervision of other Navigation Officers.

Primary Objectives:

  • To achieve a safe, fully optimised and efficient set-up of all navigation related aircraft functions.



Specific Responsibilities of the Job

  • Compiles, verifies and is accountable for ensuring that the monthly Navigation data updates which are loaded on all flydubai aircraft.
  • Coordinate and consult with relevant internal departments and external vendors to ensure accuracy and consistency of the product. Actively participate in research for future systems and enhancements – push the boundaries.
  • Maintain a high level of content accuracy in operational documentation, using guidance from Flight and Ground Operations. Ongoing review of all company documents is crucial, which requires working knowledge of specific aircraft systems.
  • Assist Manager Aeronautical Services, EFB Specialist and Technical author with creation of EFB update packages with particular focus on effective crossover for navigation related data.
  • Ensure that all future navigational and paperless cockpit system requirements and technological advances are planned and catered for in line with airline growth.
  • Plan, organise and participate in simulator sessions for validating specialised navigation precision approaches. Is responsible for coordinating the sessions, logging the flight data in conjunction with pilot management and performance. Ultimately responsible for ensuring publication of required data post simulator validation session.
  • Subject matter expert for the Flight Planning System including administration settings and revision management.
  • Company, Navigation and Drift down / decompression data management, within the Flight Planning system.
  • Work with Manager Aeronautical Services to conduct risk assessments and management of change processes for navigational functions.
  • Work closely with the Accounts and Engineering departments to maintain working knowledge of aircraft leasing costs and navigational technical issues relevant to Cost Index and fuel use policy.
  • Provide accurate fuel burn analysis for use as part of the annual company budget and agree on route evaluation processes.
  • Review post-flight paperwork for fuel monitoring purposes and suggest policy adjustments based on the results
  • Seek optimization of costs in all aspects of the role and related activities.
  • Represent the department and company as required at Industry conferences & events.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar or Operations based role (airline, military or aviation focused vendor).
  • Flight planning / AIP / ICAO annex understanding.
  • Practical application of route planning and route database maintenance an advantage.
  • Navigation database management / ARINC 424 familiarity an advantage.
  • Previous experience of undertaking airport technical evaluations.
  • Good aircraft performance knowledge (experience with B737NG operations an advantage).
