Job Description :

  • The Airline Purchasing Department creates quantifiable value through the application of procurement excellence.   We strategically manage the supply network to meet our goals of improving quality, reducing risk, increasing efficiency and optimizing cost.  In short, we help the business do things better, safer, faster and at less cost than our competitors.
  • The successful candidate for this role will work closely with key stakeholders in the Product, Engineering and Inflight Services departments, managing a wide range of high value interiors categories including:
  1. Seating & ‘Trim and Finish”;
  2. Inflight Entertainment & Connectivity;
  3. Galleys, electrical galley inserts, stowages and monuments, lavatories and cabin lighting.
  • The role is responsible for ensuring that we have a clear supply market strategy for each category, have meaningful contracts in place with our suppliers, that we are achieving the best possible pricing in the marketplace and that we manage those suppliers appropriately to ensure they deliver to scope and on time.
  • The successful candidate will also be responsible for identifying and implementing changes to make the current processes more efficient. This is a fast-paced dynamic role and requires a proactive self-starter who can combine procurement leadership qualities with ‘service straight from the heart’.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and provide analysis on the supply market to the relevant internal customers
  • Actively interact with internal customers to assist in the definition of the business requirements
  • Develop winning ‘go-to-market’ sourcing strategies and negotiation plans
  • Manage the RFI/RFP process as appropriate
  • Lead cross functional negotiations with suppliers to obtain the best possible T&Cs and pricing, closing contracts in a timely manner
  • Lead the supplier assessment process, establishing and monitoring supplier performance measurements and achieving continuous improvement from the supply base
  • Minimize the number of potential disputes that arise with suppliers and support the BU with a clear negotiation strategy in the event any do arise
  • Consolidate and monitor the spend on a long-term basis, continuously improving Cathay’s total cost of ownership
  • Manage external legal resource if necessary
  • Provide support to the Purchasing Manager, Cabin Interiors and carry out any other relevant duties which may be required
Job Requirements :
  • Degree holder in Business, Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, exposure in airline industry is an advantage
  • Proven commercial acumen, with purchasing, supplier management and/or contracting experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical personnel at multiple organization levels.
  • Ability to work independently on business relationships of significant value and complexity.
  • Strong analytical skill, presentation skill and attention to detail.
  • Solid negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Team player and good people skill.
  • Highly process-oriented with lateral thinking capabilities and excellent organizational skill.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results within deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel overseas as necessary.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (additional proficiencies in Cantonese and/or Mandarin a plus).  Must be able to
  • communicate effectively with suppliers from different nationalities
