Narrative: |
A Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F cargo plane was destroyed when it crashed on landing at Riyadh-King Khaled International Airport (RUH), Saudi Arabia. Both crew members survived the accident. The airplane operated on Flight LH8460, a scheduled cargo service operating from Frankfurt to Riyadh. It carried 80 tons of cargo. The airplane bounced while landing on runway 33L, a 13,796 ft long, asphalt runway. The deceleration forces during the first touchdown was 2g. The airplane touched down a second (3 g) and third time (4,3g). The rear fuselage separated from the plane during the final touchdown and the airplane skidded off the left side of the runway 2400 metres past the first touchdown. It came to rest in the sand 375 m further on and caught fire.
