Sunday, 12 February 2012
Heli-Expo, Dallas, Texas (Marketwire) - Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.'s (P&WC) PW200 turboshaft engine fleet recently flew its 5 millionth hour, P&WC is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

"This remarkable milestone demonstrates the tremendous success of the PW200 engine family has made over the past two decades," said Richard Dussault, Vice President, Marketing, P&WC. "It has become a reference in the light-twin helicopter market, capturing a majority of new deliveries in this segment, especially in law enforcement, emergency medical services and corporate markets."

P&WC introduced the PW200 engine family in the 1990s in response to demands for multi-role rotary flight. Competing in the 500 to 800 shp class, the series leverages the experience of P&WC's legendary PT6 engine family.

"The PW200's ongoing success in the light-twin helicopter segment continues to be driven by superior engine performance, low operating costs and an unparalleled customer support network," Dussault noted. Innovative computer-based maintenance programs have been created to support PW200 customers with state-of-the-art technology while the engine control system provides the most up-to-date operational information.

The new PW210 engine family, scheduled to enter service later this year, has been developed to meet market demand in the 1,000 shp range. Certified in 2011, the PW210S model will power Sikorsky's new S-76D helicopter. A second model, the PW210A has been selected to power the new AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter in the 4.5 ton class.

Since the 1970s, P&WC has produced more than 12,000 engines for the helicopter market, accumulating more than 43 million flying hours. The company has certified 31 models for more than 25 applications and engines destined for the helicopter industry.
