AEA Press Statement: Flight and Duty Time Limitations, Responsibility of Airlines and Pilots
Tuesday, 18 June 2013
The Association of European Airlines (AEA) in a press statement welcomed the opportunity from the transport and tourism committee of the European Parliament, to share its opinion, during the hearing on the flight and duty time limitations (FTL) for pilots and cabin crew.
AEA has been in favor of the harmonization of flight and duty time limitations. The proposal of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is the result of a rule making procedure involving national authorities, airlines, and trade unions. While the majority of the EU member states have declared they are ready to adopt the EASA proposed FTL.
Vincent De Vroey, general manager technical and operations of AEA said during the hearing: “AEA believes that EASA submitted a balanced proposal: safety cannot be compromised, therefore airlines are ready to take any necessary steps to ensure safety.
“The proposal will create one, harmonized set of rules for the common aviation market which will benefit passengers’ safety. We therefore urge the Members of the European Parliament to adopt the proposed regulation without any further delay”.
