AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, announced Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) has signed a contract for two AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters.
The aircraft will be used to perform offshore transport missions from Anduki base. The helicopters are expected to be delivered in mid 2013. The contract also includes a power-by-the-hour support and training package which will be supplied through AgustaWestland Malaysia. Training will also be supplied with a Level D Full flight simulator through the training academy based in Malaysia.
Vincenzo Alaimo, head of region, AgustaWestland, said “We are very pleased that BSP has selected the AW139 for its offshore helicopter transport requirements. This contract provides further evidence of the success of the best selling intermediate helicopter among all key Oil & Gas operators in Asia thanks to its outstanding performance, capabilities and safety standards. Through the full backing of AgustaWestland Malaysia’s regional support and training centre, BSP will be allowed to maximize the operational benefits provided by the AW139.”
With its power reserve, the AW139 delivers Category A (Class 1) performance from a helipad (elevated or at ground level) at maximum take-off weight with an one engine inoperative capability. The standard configuration provides seating for 12 or 15 passengers in a 8.0 m3 cabin with sliding cabin doors. Almost 180 customers from more than 50 countries have ordered nearly 660 AW139 helicopters so far with more than 500 units in service worldwide.
