Wednesday, 22 August 2012
Amman, Royal Jordanian signed a new codeshare agreement with SriLankan Airlines (IATA Code: UL).Under the terms of the "free-sale" agreement SriLankan Airlines, the marketing carrier is only bound by the number of available seats between Amman and Colombo operated by Royal Jordanian.

Tickets based on the codeshare agreement will be available starting 22, August 2012, for travel starting 26, August 2012 onwards.

According to a statement by Royal Jordanian, the agreement may be extended in the future and transformed into a bilateral agreement, with the Amman based carrier assigning its IATA's RJ code on the flights operated by the SriLankan Airlines beyond Colombo, subject to obtaining the traffic rights for each carrier.

Amer Hadidi, Royal Jordanian's president and chief executive officer, said, “Our partnership will also allow us to boost the oneworld global network in a region of high air travel demand.”

Kapila Chandrasena, SriLankan Airlines’ chief executive officer, added, “Royal Jordanian becomes SriLankan’s sixth codeshare partner, and the first that is a full-fledged oneworld member. We look forward to a future that will give us more opportunities together with Royal Jordanian, where we will build on the synergies of the two networks and explore avenues of cooperation.”

Earlier in June 2012, oneworld announced that Sri Lankan Airlines will join the global airline alliance starting late 2013. RJ has been running regular service to Colombo since 1991, and currently operates three weekly flights.
