Royal Jordanian Receives an Airbus A321 and A320 Aircraft

Amman,  Royal Jordanian announced it received two aircraft from a total order placed with Dublin-based lessor AWAS, early 2011 of seven Airbus A321 and A320.  The intention is to replace the current six Airbus A320s and A321s with seven new aircraft of the same type (that includes an additional A320), the delivered aircraft are powered by IAE V2500 engines (International Aero Engines).

According to the airline this is part of Royal Jordanian 's short to medium range fleet renewal program with the objective to enhance efficiency across the airline 's network. The first three Airbus A320 aircraft joined the fleet last year.
 
The A320 will be named "As-Salt "* with seating 136 passengers configuration (16 in the business class) and a cargo capacity of approximately 10 tons. The A321 will be named "Al Karak"** with a 162 passengers configuration (20 in the business class) and cargo capacity of approximately 12 tons. Both have a flight duration of five hours and 30 min (subject to payload).

The newly delivered aircraft have personal screens for all passenger seats with the Thales I5000 digital video & audio on-demand in-flight entertainment system. Royal Jordanian stated the remaining A321 and A320 aircraft are scheduled to join the airline in June and November 2012.

* As-Salt  is an ancient agricultural town and administrative centre in west-central Jordan. It is believed it was built by the Macedonian army during the reign of Alexander the Great. The town was known as Saltus in Byzantine times and was the seat of a Bishopric.

**Al-Karak is a city in Jordan  known for the famous crusader castle Kerak. The castle is one of the three largest castles in the region. Karak is the capital city of Karak Governorate. Once a Kingdom, lies 140 km to the south of Amman on the King's Highway.
