Royal Jordanian Airlines receives two new Airbus A330s today
Monday, 24 May 2010
Amman, Two new Airbus A330-200 aircraft joined the Royal Jordanian fleet. The planes will be dedicated to serve the airline’s long- and medium-range routes to the Far East and London.

RJ president/CEO Hussein Dabbas said that the decision to introduce the aircraft was part of the airline’s plan to modernize its fleet and replace the long-serving aircraft with modern planes, thus offering passengers the highest levels of comfort, especially during long-range flights.

He mentioned that the Airbus A330s that join RJ's 31-plane fleet were acquired because of the delay in the delivery of the 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which will start joining the fleet in 2013. The B787s were scheduled to join the airline at the beginning of 2011.

Dabbas also pointed out that last year RJ concluded its short- and medium-haul fleet modernization program, having introduced 19 newly manufactured aircraft: 12 Airbus aircraft of the A320 family, and seven Embraer 195 and 175. RJ will also acquire a new Embraer 175 in the last quarter of this year. By the end of 2010, RJ will start renewing its Airbus A340s operating on long flights.

He added that RJ's Airbus A330 is a wide-bodied aircraft that seats 283 passengers, 24 in Crown class. It holds 15 tons of cargo and flies a range of 13,400 km non stop.
It enjoys very high standards of comfort and luxury, in terms of seat pitch and in-flight entertainment systems, on all Crown and Economy seats, where each passenger can watch his/her favorite program on a personal in-seat screen.

The RJ president pointed out that the airline named the two aircraft after the names of His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein and Jordan River. RJ aircraft carry the names of Their Royal Highnesses the Princes and Princesses of the Royal family, and also names of Jordanian cities.

He said that this type of aircraft, which reaches a maximum speed of is 913km/hour, will be dedicated to service the airline's routes to London, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, in order to provide the passengers traveling to these destinations more comfort and a seamless travel experience, in view of the wide distance that separates the seats: 32" in the economy class and 62" in the Crown Class, where seats can recline to be lie flat.

The first flight of this aircraft will depart for London on June 1 and the second will depart the next day for Kuala Lumpur, thus resuming a three-weekly service to the Malaysian capital.
